Support for parents and carers
Families supporting children and young people who are experiencing bullying in any form, do not need to deal with it alone. There are support organisations available to help and support.
Organisations
- The Australian Government’s eSafety Commissioner is a comprehensive resource for all issues related to online safety and online bullying. It includes a reporting and complaints service for online bullying and harassment.
- The Australian Psychological Society has a parenting guide with advice and strategies to help children managing bullying.
- Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is an international support group for the LGBTIQA+ community, that has been operating in Australia for over 30 years.
- Raising Children Network is an Australian parenting website with links to a range of national and state resources, services and support organisations for parents and families of all kinds.
Podcast
Bullying and your teenager is a podcast with Professor James Scott, a clinical child and youth psychiatrist, and the head of the Child and Youth Research Group at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Queensland.
Listen as Professor James Scott discuss the signs your teenager may be experiencing bullying, how to start the conversation with them and how you can approach the school to resolve the issues.
