The Australian Student Wellbeing Framework
The most effective way to prevent bullying in schools is to create an environment that is safe, inclusive and respectful, and promotes student engagement and wellbeing.
The importance of a whole-school approach to school culture and student health and wellbeing (including bullying prevention) is recognised by the Australian Student Wellbeing Framework (the Framework). The Framework is a guide to help Australian schools develop policies and support systems that promote student wellbeing, safety and positive relationships. These policies and support systems make it possible for students to reach their full potential.
The Framework includes five key principles:
- leadership
- inclusion
- student voice
- partnerships
- support.

- access data on student wellbeing indicators to help identify areas for improvement and tailor interventions
- involve students in decision-making about their wellbeing and give students ways to provide feedback
- build stronger partnerships with parents and carers and community organisations to support student wellbeing.
